Amish quilt from the Collection of Faith and Stephen Brown
The Art of Collecting Tour is a rare opportunity to get a glimpse of three major private Bay Area art collections in their natural habitats – in the homes of the collectors. The tour includes the homes of collectors Faith and Stephen Brown, Dorothy Saxe, and Sylvia Elsesser. The last stop of the tour is Fort Mason in San Francisco for the S.F. Tribal Exhibition and Sale where the group will have an insider’s tour of the artworks for sale. Join the tour at the Museum and travel with us to view these collections via private coach.

Faith and Stephen Brown
Faith and Stephen Brown first viewed a quilt exhibition at the Renwick Gallery in Washington, DC in 1973 and immediately appreciated the abstract beauty of Amish quilts shown there. In 1977 they purchased their first Amish quilt – and a love was born, and the chase was on! Their own collection of 80 Amish quilts was featured at the Renwick in 1999, and we all enjoyed the recent exhibition of their collection at San Francisco’s de Young Museum.

At the Brown’s home, we will nosh on gourmet box lunches while taking in the gorgeous views of Tiburon, followed by the opportunity to privately view a selected group of Amish quilts from their collection, surrounded by their other world-class collections of ceramic art and glass.
