Why Quilts Matter: History, Art & Politics

Shelly Zegart, Executive Producer and Host for the series “Why Quilts Matter: History, Art & Politics” presents a special Art of Collecting program. Zegart, co-founder of The Kentucky Quilt Project, Inc., The Alliance for American Quilts, and an expert at the forefront of quilt study for over three decades will be interviewed by SJMQT Executive Director Christine Jeffers, and the episode “What is Art?” from her groundbreaking series “Why Quilts Matter” will be presented.

We Have Scraps, Now What? Workshop with instructor Marie Strait

Explore the world of scrap quilts by looking at various types of quilts and gaining an understanding that in scrap quilts value is more important than color. Learn to sort and organize your own scraps and develop scrappy block patterns and layouts by doing mock-ups. By looking at a variety of layouts for some basic scrap blocks, you’ll go home with ideas and directions for creating your own scrap quilts. Instructor will provide fabrics and all supplies.

3-hour class and cost $45 for members, $55 for non-members.
