The San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles serves schools, colleges and universities throughout the San Francisco bay area and beyond by providing educational tours and a textile-based hands on experience. The rotating exhibitions serve as a vehicle for creating open conversation about fiber art while promoting the value of quilts and textiles. Our tour discussions revolve around a variety of themes that may address history, science, environment, sociology, artist process, women’s craft, geography and storytelling. With a passion and knowledge for textiles, our trained docents encourage students and visitors to think critically and ask questions. SJMQT docents also provide students the opportunities to see and touch with several of our learning tools.

The Museum offers unique resources for higher education unlike any in the bay area. Our permanent collection houses over 850 textiles. The collection is comprised of historic quilts, contemporary art quilts, textile-based art forms, costumes and garments from an array of cultures. By appointment, higher education students will the opportunity to have an in depth view of the Museum's collection. The Museum also maintains a library of reference material and related periodicals. The library is accessible to higher education students by appointment.

The Museum provides many opportunities for non-school audiences. SJMQT docent led tours are both insightful and informative. While many of our exhibitions offer an interactive component, groups are offered the opportunity for a hands on activity during their scheduled tour. Our Museum tours offer a chance to explore the creative work of textile artists here in Silicon Valley and beyond. For inquiries, pricing or to book your tour today please contact us and a museum representative will respond to your request.

Organizing the tour by phone and email was very convenient and appreciated. We are a small homestudy group, so thank you for having us — despite our small size.
