People often ask me, "How do you keep this fabulous museum going with such a small staff?” I tell them, “We have a dedicated staff and group of volunteers who help the Museum run. We also have amazing and dedicated supporters, who donate money whenever they can because they really appreciate all we do to share and celebrate the art and culture of textiles."That's why I am writing to you today, to ask if this is a moment when you can make a donation for something important we need to buy right now. Technology moves fast, but our computers certainly don’t any more. One staff member commented, “My computer was made when I was still in high school!” Here we are in the heart of Silicon Valley without up to date computers. That's pretty crazy isn't it?
We’re aiming to bring in 13 new computers for all the staff, one dedicated Museum laptop and up-to-date office and design software. We are in the visual arts business and we need computers with capacity to manage our images and information. We can't rely on donated slightly used computers because with our small staff every minute counts and broken computers waste time. And we don’t have an extra $13,000 in the budget this year for new computers. With new technology, staff and volunteers can improve efficiency in the office. So instead of troubleshooting, we can spend more time planning new and exciting exhibitions and events for you.For every $1,000, we can get one new desktop computer and the most up to date software. If you are like I am, and consider how much time you spend with technology, you can imagine what a difference your gift will make! And our staff and volunteers will thank you virtually many times every day!

P.S. As I was writing this letter, my assistant poked her head in my office and said she thinks her computer is beyond repair. Her colleagues worked on it and our IT consultant tinkered with it but it still won't save any of her work.
